BMW Head Office

The BMW headquarters in Midrand north of Johannesburg were planned and constructed in the mid-1980s. About 30 years later, the building had to be renovated. It was important to preserve the original concept, which was designed to prevent the production halls from creating negative environmental influences. Hans Hallen, a South African architect and urban planner, was responsible for this concept. When Hans Hallen visited the site in May 2016 at the age of 85, he too was delighted by the modernisation and quality of the building he had once designed. A total of 22.5 t of RHEINZINK titanium zinc in the RHEINZINK-prePATINA blue grey quality were used for the project. You can find more details in the project report that can be downloaded on the left.

Pterodactyl

The industrial Culver City in California now has one more architectural highlight. A roof structure shaped like a flying pterodactyl was built on top of a car park. Along with Los Angeles, this city founded in 1913 was one of the centres of the US film industry for decades. While the buildings constructed in the 1970s and 1980s weren’t always particularly beautiful, the place came to life again in the 1990s. Today the city is characterised by architectural artworks. A striking example of this is the addition of a three-storey car park. The pterodactyl lands on top of this, spreading its wings and bending slightly forward to look at the street. A total of 2,104 m² of RHEINZINK titanium zinc in the RHEINZINK-prePATINA blue grey quality were used. The installation system utilised flat lock tiles. Residential Building Meyster’s buiten

In clear weather, you can even see the skyline of Amsterdam from the rooms of a penthouse and its spacious roof terraces in Utrecht. “Meyster’s buiten”, a round residential tower, stands on the city’s west side in the “Oog in Al” district. The current residential complex was once an industrial site. Thanks to many restorations and modernisations, it was possible to create a liveable infrastructure. A 10-storey residential tower was built where large round silos for soy storage once stood. The building facade is also distinctive. The slightly shiny material and its pronounced angled standing seams create an interesting interplay in various daylight conditions and evoke the industrial character reminiscent of its earlier times. RHEINZINK titanium zinc with the RHEINZINK-prePATINA blue grey quality was used for the facade with the angled standing seam system. VGTU

Vilnius – more than 550,000 people live in the capital of Lithuania. The city is about 40 km from the border to Belarus and is one of Europe’s oldest university cities. One of the largest and most innovative higher education institutions is the Technical Gediminas University (Vilniaus Gedimino technikos universitetas − VGTU). The more than 11,000 students have access to ten faculties, various research institutes and partnerships with higher education institutions around the world. The University has been able to use a new science and administration centre since 2017 and makes it possible for the students to prepare for their careers with creativity and social engagement. The impressive structure consists of three modern main buildings and a large gate for the entrance area, which also symbolises the openness of the VGTU. A total of 3,650 m² of the facade were clad with RHEINZINK titanium zinc in the RHEINZINK-prePATINA blue grey quality.
